How can we help keep Prescott's lakes healthy?
Representatives from the City of Prescott will discuss the health of Willow, Watson, and Upper and Lower Goldwater Lakes. Jeremy Cordova, John Hilton and Matt Killeen of the City’s Environmental Services Team will provide a brief historical summary of these water resources and how they came to be in their present state. They will also discuss water quality challenges and current data that identifies specific treatment needs in the lakes. Since the lakes can only be as healthy as the watersheds that feed them, they will highlight recent stewardship activities and how citizens can help improve the health of Prescott’s creeks and lakes. Their presentation will be followed by audience Q & A.
This presentation will be presented live in Prescott. Watch online or gather with CWAG members at the Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 882 Sunset Ave in Prescott. Enjoy coffee and conversation at 9:45 a.m., followed by the program at 10 a.m. Questions/comments? Email us at

About the speakers: Jeremy Cordova is a geologist with a background in structural geology and tectonics, geologic hazards, and natural resources. He has spent 8 years as a project manager and currently manages the City of Prescott’s new Healthy Lakes and Green Stormwater Infrastructure programs. Jeremy earned a Master of Science degree in Geology studying the origins of the North Cascade Mountains in Washington State, and a Bachelor of Science in Geology locating the first tsunami deposit found in Southern California. He has lived in Yavapai County for five years and enjoys the outdoors and hands-on work.
Jon Hilton serves as the Stormwater Specialist for the City of Prescott. His work includes conducting construction site inspections, investigating illicit discharges, responding to drainage concerns, and performing stormwater outfall monitoring. He also collects and analyzes surface water samples, manages stormwater data and asset information, and assists with reporting and program implementation required for the City’s MS4 permit. Through field work, laboratory testing, and collaboration with other City departments and the public, he helps protect Prescott’s lakes, streams, and stormwater infrastructure through regulatory compliance while supporting environmental stewardship efforts.
Matt Killeen has been serving as the environmental lead for the City of Prescott for the last 10 years. This work has focused on improving the water quality of our lakes and creeks through regulatory compliance and stewardship. Prior to his arrival in Prescott, he lived and worked on riparian nature preserves in southeast Arizona. Matt and his family can often be found hiking, biking, paddling or fishing at our local lakes.
