Stepping Up Conservation Actions
In order to reduce the overdraft, we must implement effective conservation programs that will reduce the demand for water in all sectors: Residential, Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial. The commitment to support water conservation at the local and regional levels involves a long term commitment to provide the resources to plan and pay for conservation measures.
Many barriers are in the way of municipalities making the commitment to support water conservation. These include underestimating the potential impacts of conservation, negative attitudes toward regulations, and concerns that conserved water will support growth rather than recharging the aquifer.
Current water conservation programs have only begun to realize the potential for water savings. In the AMA, only Prescott has a good start.
We can easily do better.
