Karen L. Smith, Ph.D., presents “Arizona at the Crossroads: Water Scarcity or Water Sustainability?" She will suggest things we can do right now to help Arizona get on a path of greater sustainability, and ensure our water security for tomorrow. Smith is an adjunct professor at Arizona State University and a research fellow for the Grand Canyon Institute. She worked previously as Deputy Director of the Arizona Department of Water Resources, as Director of the Water Quality Division at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, and at the Salt River Project. Her work centers on water sustainability and public policy development, and the history of the Southwest United States. She is the author of numerous works on water resources in Arizona, including The Magnificent Experiment: Building the Salt River Reclamation Project and Arizona at the Crossroads: Water Scarcity or Water Sustainability.
