NEW! 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Hassayampa River Mineral Withdrawal Public Meeting (In person only). The Prescott National Forest has initiated the process of applying a “mineral withdrawal” over the upper Hassayampa River watershed in order to protect areas of the Hassayampa River corridor located on National Forest System lands from potential impacts from mining and related surface occupancy and use activities. The application is to withdraw 3,793 acres of USFS lands from all forms of location and entry under the General Mining Act of 1872, as amended (U.S. mining laws) for a 20-year term, subject to valid existing rights. A withdrawal was previously in effect until 2019 when the protections lapsed. At this meeting there will be a welcome/introductions session, a short project overview, and then a breakout session where meeting attendees can move around the room and ask additional questions of Forest Service staff.
